LATEST NEWS : Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh local body elections, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has begun the election campaign from the newly-constituted Nagar Nigam, Ayodhya.

Talking exclusively to ANI on Tuesday, the firebrand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader talked about his reasons behind it, and also explained his view on the visit of Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to Ayodhya in a bid to mediate between the stakeholders of Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute.

“Ayodhya is a holy place, and the first phase of elections will be held there. The name Ayodhya means – where no war takes place, so what better place is there than Ayodhya to start the campaign as well?” Adityanath said, and added that the credit for making Ayodhya a Nagar Nigam goes to the BJP.

Further underscoring the importance of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, he said, “In India, nothing can be undertaken or accomplished without the mention of Lord Rama. He represents our faith, and is the focal point of all the beliefs in India.”

The local body elections are expected to be the first test for Aditynath who took office earlier this year. Expressing confidence for BJP’s victory, Adityanath said, “We are ready for the test. The test for us is not just in election but every day.”

The polling for 652 urban local bodies which includes 16 Nagar Nigam, will be held in three phases on November 22, November 26 and November 29.

Doklam standoff: China rejects reports of offering to relocate troops

LATEST NEWS       :   China has vehemently rejected all reports of it ever offering a compromise to India by relocating its troops in the disputed Doklam border area.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry reacted to a report where China had allegedly offered to move its troops back 100 meters, after India sought the pullback of Chinese troops by 250 metres.

The Spokesperson’s Office told China Daily that the report is not true, adding that “China will not trade its territorial sovereignty under any circumstances.”

“China’s position on solving this incident is clear and firm. India must immediately and unconditionally withdraw all its trespassing troops and equipment back to the Indian side of the border,” the office said in a statement.

China could never accept India’s “totally unreasonable” demand, said Zhao Xiaozhuo, a researcher at the PLA Academy of Military Science told China Daily, adding that India had honored the convention until Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration refused.

Earlier this month, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that India’s ‘intrusion’ had not only violated China’s territorial sovereignty but also challenged Bhutan’s sovereignty and independence.

However, the Government of Bhutan on Thursday pointedly refuted a Chinese Foreign Ministry claim that Bhutan had conveyed through diplomatic channels to China that the trilateral border stand-off area in Doklam in the Sikkim sector is not its territory.

Commuters faced trouble while managing traffic on Saturday and Sunday as the foamy goop billowed on the road from the lake.

Adding to the woes is the unbearable stink coming from the froth.

The pictures and videos of the pathetic state have been posted by the locals on social media, with many criticising the civic bodies for the utter disorder.

However, this is not the first time that this has happened. It is a recurrent problem which is only increasing with every passing day.

Last year in April, the same had happened with the froth spouting from the Varthur Lake onto the roads, causing a traffic jam.

The Bellandur Lake in the city made headlines recently, for catching fire on May 7.

As an aftermath, thick smog surrounded the heavily-polluted lake, making it difficult for the passers-by to breathe.(read more)
